On 12 November the Efficiency Exchange and the Guardian Higher Education Network will launch a new hub for university managers, administrators and service providers, leading with Professor Sir Ian Diamond on the future of the efficiency agenda.

National Academic Workload Management Conference – 12 December 2013
The aim of the conference, sponsored by the Leadership Foundation, is to share Academic Workload Management knowledge and experience with the sector. Several universities, as well as the Leadership Foundation and KPMG, will report on their observations and involvement with the project. UWE will share information and talk about the challenges which the University has faced with its own model and system.
Date and timings: Thursday 12 December 2013 – Registration at 09:30 for 10:00 start (UK Local time). Venue: UWE Exhibition and Conference Centre in Bristol.

Cost sharing groups and VAT exemption: developing good practice
Hefce has published a circular letter inviting bids for funding for developing and disseminating good practice in shared services; specifically in applying the Value Added Tax (VAT) cost sharing exemption, as implemented in the Finance Act 2012. The total value of the funding available is £250,000. We anticipate funding up to 10 projects, with the level of funding depending on the scale and outcome of each project. All Hefce-funded institutions are eligible to apply, including further education colleges offering higher education. The deadline for proposals is noon on Monday 16 December 2013.
