Money for university science is in short supply. Yet university laboratories represent a great untapped resource. The benefits – financial and performance–based – of improving their efficiency are proven, most recently by a survey of academics, technicians and other practitioners at the 2012 conference of the S-Lab (Safe, Successful, Sustainable Laboratories) initiative.
